Advances in labour analgesia
نویسنده
چکیده
women. The ideal labour analgesia technique should dramatically reduce the pain of labour, while allowing the parturient to actively participate in the birthing experience. In addition, it should have minimal effect on the fetus or the progress of labour. New labour analgesia techniques approach this goal. This lecture will review these new methods of pain relief for the parturient and will highlight their benefits and risks. The discussion will include spinal opiates and combined spinal-epidural (CSE) analgesia, patient controlled epidural analgesia, and continuous spinal analgesia. I will also discuss the controversy surrounding the impact of epidural analgesia on the Cesarean section rate.

متن کاملKnowledge, attitudes and use of labour analgesia among women at a low-income country antenatal clinic
BACKGROUND Childbirth is one of the most painful experiences of a woman's life. Authorities in the fields of obstetrics and anaesthesia encourage use of labour analgesia. Unlike in high-income countries, pain relief in labour in Africa is not a well established service, especially in the low-income countries like Uganda. Little is known about whether parturients would be amenable to labour anal...
متن کاملLabour analgesia and obstetric outcomes.
Neuraxial analgesic techniques are the gold standards for pain relief during labour and delivery. Despite the increased use and known benefits of neuraxial labour analgesia, there has been significant controversy regarding the impact of neuraxial analgesia on labour outcomes. Review of the evidence suggests that effective neuraxial labour analgesia does not increase the rate of Caesarean delive...
